A four-way, USB 2.0 hub. A magnetic paperclip holder. A fake fish tank. A seven-color LED illuminator. Mix them all together, and what have you got? Yes: possibly the worst USB gizmo ever. Sony High End STR-DA4400ES Receiver
The bottom line on the STR-DA4400ES, STR-DA3400ES and STR-DA2400ES is that they are Sony's new high end line of 7.1 receivers, outstanding for low noise, clean power, chassis dampening, 5 year warranty and high price. They all have cross media bar interfaces like the PS3. The HDMI ports also do BRAVIA control for over the wire remote of other Sony devices. Official Star Wars USB Hubs May be Best USB Products Ever
Forget Dr Who's TARDIS, sci-fi USB hub fans (come on... you know who you are) are going to go bonkers over these official R2D2 and Vader USB hubs. R2's head moves, he lights up and emits genuine Star Wars sound effects every three minutes, while Vader just seems to have the sound effects and glowing eyes. *Shiver*... menacing. Of course they also have four full-speed USB sockets on the front, and come with three feet of USB cable. Available in July for around $66... but that's in Japan, USB hub fans. Wooden iPod Dock is Wholesome, Er, Wooden
Available for both iPod classic and nano, Marubeni Infotech's wooden docks are coming out in Japan next month. In two finishes: American Walnut; and Scandinavian Birch, (*thwack!*) they have a USB connection and two piddly little 1W channels. Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro Webcam For Macs, Like iSight but Better
Remember the old Apple iSight: auto-focus, built to last, clip-on and generally fantastic? Well, Logitech is trying to take us back to the days when you snapped a cam onto your machine to do your video-calling, and has released the QuickCam Vision Pro Webcam for Macs. It's got Carl Zeiss optics, a voice-coil motor for smooth auto-focus, a 2-megapixel sensor and can record video in 720p resolution. Sure it's not quite as sleek as the old iSight and you can't use it for iChat video effects, but it seems a tad better than Apple's built-in cams. Available July for $129.99. Press release below. Whenever I see some high-end retailer flogging non-core business objects, I wrinkle up my nose in disgust. Chanel, of the non-Cylon No. 5, has been the most visible company to do this with its bikes, skis, and now fishing gear, and this is British gentleman's outfitters, Dunhill's, take on it. The AD88. Not only does it take my initials in vain, but it is almost $4,000-worth of iPod dock, digital radio and CD/DVD player that, at almost $4,000 (I guess you tip the doorman the remaining $5 when you walk out of the shop with it) makes fools of us all. Greenhouse's New Headphones, For the "Pig Crashed Through Your Brain" Look
This strange product from Greenhouse is worth talking about, if only so I could share that headline with you. In case you're wondering, the pig is in soft silicon... to reproduce the texture of a real pig. After that news, you won't care these weird 'phones have a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range, multi-sized silicon earbuds and 35-inch cable with a gold-plated plug. So, if you're into conversation-piece leather-gimp peripherals, and you know your way around a keyboard better than you know how to aim safely for the toilet in the dark, then this might be the one for you.
